Our journey with two distinct projects, Gerulata and Pucung, sheds light on the transformative power and the nuanced challenges of integrating AI into the creative landscape.

AI-generated images are core part of Gerulata's visual identities. Prompts defined in brand guidelines? Besides color palette and typography? Why not.

Gerulata Technologies, a firm specializing in detecting information threats, posed a unique challenge: representing complex, sensitive themes without the conventional imagery available in stock libraries or too costly to produce a desirable result. The solution? AI-generated visuals that not only overcame the limitations of the traditional approach but also added a layer of depth to the brand's visual language, since most of Gerulata's products rely on AI and LLM technologies.

We developed a series of detailed prompts, refining them until the AI could produce visuals that were strikingly realistic and aligned with Gerulata's core identity. This method not only ensured a cohesive visual style but also allowed us to explore representations that were previously out of reach, both practically and financially.

Contrastingly, the Pucung project, organized by an NGO Stop Corruption Foundation, demanded creativity within a budget reasonably spent. The name of the festival is derived from German term for cleaning, Putzung, and the project drew inspiration from the microscopic world of cleaning - a playful yet abstract theme far removed from the photorealism of Gerulata. Here, AI-generated visuals offered a quick, cost-effective avenue to explore and realize this unique concept.

Our collaboration with Willbe Studio further amplified the project's visual potential.

Initially intended as a reference, the AI-generated images became the cornerstone of the visual identity, guiding the CGI artists in crafting animated interpretations that were both captivating and aligned with the project's playful essence.

Both projects underscore the dual advantages of AI in design: efficiency and the ability to introduce novel perspectives. AI dramatically condenses the concept development phase, transforming weeks of work into mere hours or, in some cases, even minutes for producing new visuals. This efficiency, however, doesn't compromise quality; it enables customization and relevance at an unparalleled scale.

However, despite the numerous advantages, integrating AI into brand identity projects is not without its challenges. One significant pitfall is the potential inconsistency in visual style that AI might produce, especially when compared to the uniformity achievable with traditional CGI or photography. This inconsistency can sometimes lead to a disjointed brand identity if not carefully managed.

Additionally, while text to image AI excels in generating static visuals, its capability in producing coherent animated visuals remains limited for now (with a large emphasis on "for now"), which can be a constraint for projects requiring dynamic content. Moreover, the dependency on AI-generated visuals necessitates a deep understanding of prompt engineering, requiring designers to possess not only creative skills but also a certain level of technical proficiency to effectively communicate with AI. Navigating these challenges requires a balanced approach, blending AI's strengths with human oversight to ensure that the final output aligns with the brand's core values and vision.
